Chapter Eighteen

“We can’t allow this to turn into a fiasco,” Connor murmured as he reached for his drink. “We need to find out who if anyone else she contacted about the program.”

“It’s not just the program,” Andrew replied quietly. “It’s the other information too. Tate might have managed to uncover what we thought we’d buried.”

Connor took a sip of his drink. They had both worked so hard to get to where they were. Neither of them was the best in the business, but they had lucked up on some pretty good software that had over time improved. Now, their company Right Tech was considered one of the best computer software companies in the country.

Irene Tate was dead, but she could destroy both their lives if managed to make contact with the right person.

“This could be just like Patty,” Connor said speaking of Andrew’s wife.

She’d insinuated that she’d sent some information to someone else, but no one had ever tried to blackmail them. However, someone had sent an info package to the police. Luckily for them, they’d known the cop, and he wouldn’t be talking since he now was at risk of facing criminal prosecution himself if he ever talked.

“It could be, and if it is, we need to find both people Tate sent the file too before one of them surfaces with that information,” Andrew told him. “I don’t want to go to jail.”

“We aren’t going to,” Connor assured him. “I have two people working on this as well as a hacker. Our hacker should be able to find at least one of the people Tate contacted. He already knows she was a computer tech of some sort.”

“That worries me more than anything else. A hacker can get stuff out on the net and that’s forever,” Andrew replied.

“He’ll find them,” Connor growled. “We just need to focus on court. We’ve got to present a united front with the case coming up. It could impact my chances of winning. I’m still up in the polls with Andrea being my only viable competition. How does that even happen?”

“She’s a councilwoman with a record for doing things for her district, and she’s running a Fortune 500 company. The others don’t have half that going for them.”

And Connor knew she could win this based on her reputation as a businesswoman unless he managed to make her look bad at the debate. Before that though he had to continue touching base with past voters, voters who could look past her being gay if they got to know her.

She was dynamic in a way. She knew how to get things done, to inspire people. Her performance Sunday wasn’t anything to go by. She’d been very low-key. However, he knew a few of the conservative voters at the gallery event had liked her despite her being gay.

“What does Katrina have planned that will tank her campaign?” he asked.

“We could settle out of court,” Andrew said by way of answer. We could also fire two of those jack-asses. We can’t fire all of them because we need two of them.
